Affairs at Fort Lyon, the Colorado Territory, where the new commander orders the arrest of all the peaceful Arappahoe Indians who have been camped 2 miles from the Fort and come everyday to the Fort for provisions, demanding all their weapons and horses belonging to the US Government. The Indians immediately agree to any demands made by the Yankees. The Commander proclaims they are all his prisoners. 9 Cheyenne Indians come to the Fort telling the Commander that 600 more are on their way, plus an additional 2,000 once the weather breaks. The officer writes he will not allow this as he does not have the provisions to feed all these Indians. He also writes of no love lost for the hostile Arapahoes, Sioux, Cheyenne, Kiowas and Commanches, as well as the Apaches. The Federals fought to disarm the hostile Indians, and when they finally achieve peace, they turn their backs on the Indians. A no win situation for the Indian Nations. (Nov 6-16)
